(Slovenia) Kick-off for new round of trainings for home-based social care workers

In Ljubljana, a special chapter began on 15 May for a group of participants, namely migrants who embarked on a training pathway to become home-based social care workers.

The training was organised over several months through the joint efforts of the Employment Service of Slovenia, the Office for the Integration and Care of Migrants, public institutions, and non-governmental organisations from the Global Classroom network.

The organisation of the training for migrants who are not registered as unemployed, but are already in employment, is taking place under the coordination of the Employment Service of Slovenia and the LABOUR-INT III project. It is financed as part of a pilot project with financial support from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the European Commission. The project opens new pathways for the integration and employment of migrants, while strengthening the importance of accessible and quality home care.

Over the next two months, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills needed for work that is becoming increasingly important, both in Slovenia and across Europe. Today, the profession of home-based social care worker means more than just a job. It means providing help, closeness, care, and humanity where they are most needed.

The training is delivered by the Cene Štupar Public Institute. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate valid for life, enabling them to take part in the knowledge assessment procedure to obtain the official National Vocational Qualification certificate for Home-Based Social Care Worker, and opening the door to employment opportunities.

This is an important additional step towards the inclusion of people in the labour market, while also responding to the growing need for quality home care. We wish the participants a successful start, plenty of new knowledge, and a confident step towards a new professional future.
